Offers an amazing coastal trail which will take you to sandy beaches, rock faces, petroglyphs (ancient native art), and to Beechy head where you have a clear lookout of the Olympic mountains across the Juan de Fuca strait. We will do a moderate circuit hike, where we’ll take time for an awesome lunch. Your guide will tell you all you want to know about the scenery, wildlife, flora and fauna. The 5 hour trip includes transportation, your guide and a tasty lunch. This hike can be longer if interested; we can do the whole trail including lunch in 7 hours and be picked up on the other end! Please call to request a longer hike.

We begin with an unmarked trail down to an old growth of cedars as the first stop on our Big Tree Tour.  From there we head out to see the giant gnarly cedars of Avatar Grove, Big Lonely Doug and into the new Eden Grove.  Special requests can include visits to the San Juan Spruce and Red Creek Fir. Book your big tree tour today and come see these giant while they still stand tall.

A favorite of the locals and holds a history not quite like the other beaches on the West Coast. Sombrio has awesome free falling and hidden waterfalls. It has caves, prehistorical bugs, three beaches to explore, and a fresh water river that can be crossed by tree or suspension bridge. Only a 15 minute walk through the giant trees, ferns, and moss will get you from the day trip van to the west coast beach. Your guide will tell you all about the plant, sea and wild life you see around you, the mountain range in the distance, and some well known stories of a time when Sombrio was home to a community of people.

Hi Drea! I want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts in showing myself, my husband and our 3 teenaged kids the time of our lives! This will be a trip we will never forget… Between the beaches, forest, hiking, whale watching and the amazing lunch’s you provided us we were awestruck. It’s not easy planning a family trip let alone pleasing 3 teenagers, but I know for a fact my kids had a great time because 8 months later they are still talking about it. You showed us breath taking views, one thing after another as one can see from all your photos. Anybody reading this, you think the photos are beautiful wait till you are there in person! Again, thank you for giving us amazing memories and I will be recommending you to everyone I know that might be taking a trip to Vancouver Island! All the best to you and your business, and I look forward to the next time we meet again.

My husband (78) and myself (73) recently spent three wonderful days in Port Renfrew. One day was spent with Drea as our guide. In the morning we hiked through Avatar Grove, first exploring the lower loop and then the upper. Drea set a good pace for us and we truly enjoyed getting up close to the majestic trees in the forest. Following our hike, Drea treated us to a delicious lunch by the Gordon River. In the afternoon we were joined by a younger couple and we explored Sombrio Beach. The best part was finding the Hidden Waterfall which would have been highly unlikely on our own. With Drea, we felt safe and confident. We both found Drea to be very warm, friendly and knowledgeable. We recommend Drea to anyone planning a trip to the East Sooke/ Port Renfrew area.

    Another sweet review 🙂

    Drea Drea,

You rank number 1 on my list of guides, anywhere…including Peru, Guatemala, Chile, Japan and China…not to mention New Mexico and Utah in the good old USA.

You tailored our two beach adventures perfectly…were a quick study of my desires, needs, and as an 81-year-old solo traveler, my physical capabilities. Your responsiveness to my initial inquiry, your professionalism and skills, flexibility, knowledge of the area…sense of humor…all made for delightful and seamless “soft” adventures. My thanks are truly not enough…as my temporary spirit daughter, you pushed and encouraged just enough to help me realize my goals (Sombrio waterfalls and Botanical Beach tidal pools). Doing so was both memorable and empowering.

My wife and I visited the Port Renfrew area in August 2022, our first trip out to the depths of Vancouver Island. Not knowing enough about the area but having a good bit of knowledge about the big trees, we decided to enlist Drea’s services. This was easily one of the best decisions of the entire trip, especially having her handle the driving up the rough logging road to Big Lonely Doug and Eden Grove. We also dipped into the Lower Avatar Grove on the way out to Big Lonely Doug. Drea is well plugged in to the history around area preservation efforts in the special groves, and she will give you a good education on the tree species out there. We had some great conversation about trunk reiterations!

Drea also put Sombrio Beach on our trip, which was definitely on my list. We did several others on our own, but Sombrio was very special and unique in its own way with the hidden waterfalls. Both of us could not recommend hiring Drea to guide you around the area on your visit to Port Renfrew enough. She also made a great little vegetarian lunch for us to enjoy on a big log down by the beach.

Next time we go back to this area, we will not hesitate to sign up with Drea again. I would highly recommend a trip!
